In The Center Of The Ring Just Like A Circus

So, who here has an unlimited spending limit on their credit cards? Or should I say, their daddy's credit card?

I know I sure don't.

Well, if you're lucky enough to just have $5000 sitting around that you have no idea what to do with, you should invest that money in a costume.

What costume you ask?

Only the best costume ever from the best performer out there.

Photobucket

That's right, loves. For a mere $5000, you can bid on Britney Spears's screen-worn costume from the "Circus" music video.

Heck, if I had that kind of money lying around collecting dust, I would so be all over this. But I don't, so I'm not.

Britney looked hot in the music video. I love her album. And this costume is smokin'. I want the sequin tights. Who wants to buy Sylvie a present and make her life?

Trend Talk

Alright, so there's one trend that I've never really picked up on. Sure, I've really considered giving in at times, but I've never acted on my whims and gone out to purchase outfits of this trend.

And what exactly am I talking about?

This:
Photobucket
Jessica Alba in full hipster garb.

Yes, it's popular. But no, I'm not about to go grungy anytime soon.

I have considered getting a scarf like that and Ray-Bans, but eh, it's just not me. To be honest, the whole hipster scene is not really my style. Urban Outfitters does not interest me much either. Over-priced clothing that is far lesser quality than it should be at that cost.

I think Jessica's outfit looks fairly cute in the photo above. But it's just so overdone now. Plus, her hair's just not working for me. Oh, and I'm not sure how I feel about purple Ray-Bans with the rest of this outfit. Sure, matching too much isn't good. But not matching at all isn't all that much better, either!

So this is one outfit you'll probably never catch me in. I'm not even going to pretend to be into this hipster scene. I am no poseur!

Featured Diva

Photobucket

I saw this Diva on the first page as the Featured Diva. I absolutely love this outfit!

I am a huge Hello Kitty fan so I'm a huge fan of this Diva! I love how there's Kitty everywhere: the t-shirt, the handbag, and even Ozzy, the pet cat! Heck, even the eyes are a bit feline!

This is a really awesome outfit and it's definitely something I could wear to class or something. I love the skirt! Everything just works really well together.

So whoever owns this Diva, kudos to you! You and Kitty have won me over!

Paris Fashion Week [Part 2: Recap]

So I've decided to have a quicker rundown of hits and misses of Fashion Week in Paris. I'll just tell you who I thought was a Hit, Miss, or Mixes and why, with a few visual aids. I'll probably end up posting more in depth reports on certain shows later on, but just a quick recap here of some of the runway shows so you get a flavor of Haute Couture!

Hits:
Dior
Photobucket

Photobucket
An absolutely beautiful show. Lovely shapes with traditional beauty. The entire collection is so fresh: a breath of fresh air in the spring, just as it should be. It's very refined and polished, but still very innovative. I love how there's a Victorian influence as seen in the corseting structure of the gowns and how the hair has the lace-up style, too. Just so stunning!

Valentino
Photobucket

Photobucket
What can you say about Valentino? It's always so clean and elegant. Judging from several runway shows, this season is all about rosettes, ruffles, structure, and weaving. Valentino definitely has several of these elements incorporated in this collection and it just flows so smoothly. I absolutely need that first outfit: both in my personal wardrobe and for my Diva's! I also love the runway: it's a little trippy!

Elie Saab
Photobucket

Photobucket
Elie Saab is my new love. This collection is so beautiful. It is absolutely stunning and elegant. The details are phenomenal. The second dress shown here is so intricately made. It's not even the bridal gown! And the first dress is simplistic, but not really. It's flowing but still has structure in the top. I am in love.

Mixes:
Givenchy
Photobucket

Photobucket
Oh, Givenchy. What exactly is the inspiration behind this collection? The first dress is pretty. It's simple and I like the draping of it and the piece on the shoulder, I guess. It's pretty plain, however. I guess it's just okay. Compare that with the other dress. It's just confusing. I have no clue what exactly is going on with that second gown. What is that head scarf? What are we hiding under there? That head scarf covers the gown and completely distracts from it. Maybe under the scarf is something gorgeous, but we'll never know!

Christian Lacroix
Photobucket

Photobucket
Christian Lacroix is definitely known for being out here and wacky. But sometimes, I'm just wondering what exactly is going on. I love the girly, young flirty dress in the first photo, and I love the accessorizing, hair, and makeup. But then, the second dress, I'm just scratching my head. It looks very tribal to me compared to the pastoral, garden-like, floral piece above it. The collection just didn't flow or have a link between the outfits aside from eccentricity.

Misses:
Chanel
Photobucket

Photobucket
I usually adore Chanel. Chanel is always Classic. However, here, Classic is just boring to me. The first outfit is so pretty and cute. The cropped jacket and A-line skirt with the leggings are so fresh and cute. However, there were back-to-back outfits with that same exact structure and design. And it's all in the same color palette too! What a yawn! The second dress shown here is very cute. I really like the draping of it. However, the model looks so uncomfortable in it! She's just so very stiff and hunching a bit, taking my attention off the dress itself.

Jean-Paul Gautier

Photobucket

Photobucket
Okay, Jean-Paul Gautier is so very out there. This collection is so racy and lacy! It feels like it's trying too hard to be on the edge and innovative but it just looks trashy to me. The dresses are just really not my style here. I just really can't make myself like it, no matter how hard I'm trying to here. It's just not working for me. And neither is the accessorizing.

Un-Diva-Like Moments on Diva Chix

I wrote a feature article about Perrie back in November/December. I was planning on publishing it with the Diva Chix Chronicles, but that never happened so I'll post it here for you all to enjoy now. Some of the things might be outdated by now, and I do realize that it's a bit long. However, I think it's well-worth the read! And for the record, I got an A- on this article.

Un-Diva-Like Moments on Diva Chix

Everyday, girls (and a few guys) of all ages unleash their inner divas and fight one another to be top diva. On doll dress-up website, Diva Chix, divalicious girls and guys dress their diva dolls to compete in Hot or Not competitions and head-to-head battles, fighting for bragging rights in having the most fashionable diva on the site. Fierce divas clawing their way up the Diva Chix ladder ranking of hotness have to retract their claws and applaud Perrie Belle for designing the torn skinnies and poufy prom dresses in their wardrobes.

Diva Chix, self-proclaimed “World’s Best Dress-Up and Battle Community,” was started by Paul as a competitive, yet fun and friendly, site for girls all over the world. Launched on July 27, 2008, the purple and pink Diva Chix site only had a message board for its first month. Now, the site has multiplied to having a hair salon, facial spa and shopping center for divas to primp before strutting their stuff. Only three months after the main site launched, there are now over 20,000 registered users.

And all 20,000 users owe Perrie Belle a huge thank you.

Perrie is a bubbly blonde twenty-two-year old from Hampshire, England. With her porcelain skin and big green eyes, Perrie always has a smile on her face as she makes all Diva Chix members smile along with her. Having studied acting in college and practiced dance for three hours a day, Perrie is a performer with a wide range of artistic talents. Right now, she aspires to pursue a career in either makeup artistry or photography in the future.

When her boyfriend, Dave, was offered to join the Diva Chix site as an owner, Perrie quickly jumped on board, becoming the mastermind of all the clothes seen on the Diva Chix site. Without her designs, all the divas would be walking the runway naked and where’s the fun in that? “She is a massive part of Diva Chix. This site wouldn’t be the same without her,” says Diva Chix member, Kirsty of Birmingham, England who goes by Fragile-Heart on the site.

Spending five to ten hours a day drawing clothes for the site, Perrie loves seeing her work on display on the divas. The most popular item on the site is a pair of wide-leg cuffed flares, called the Purdy v2, which, like all other items, comes in sixteen bold colors including magenta, teal, and lime green. However, there are lots more than just pants in the divas’ wardrobes, including socks, headbands, belts, and now, jackets and vests. Perrie has designed over 300 articles to meet just about anyone’s eclectic fashion sense: sporty and casual, prim and proper, Gossip Girl preppy, and even, urban punk.

Although Perrie is known as the designer and artist for the site, she is so much more. Perrie is active in the Diva Chix forums, chit-chatting with the members under the alias, PerrieBelle. Perrie gives advice to members in their daily lives and is a great listener. “Perrie is lovely. She is really kind and genuine,” says seventeen-year-old Kirsty.

Diva Chix members are all enthusiastic about having Perrie be their fashion designer, calling her “epic win,” “amazing,” and “awesomely awesome.” Members truly appreciate the hard work and dedication Perrie puts into each of her designs.

“She has a real talent at drawing and designing and is very dedicated to her work,” says twelve-year-old Brit, Sophie, known as SupahSophie to the Diva Chix community.
Twelve-year-old Gabrielle from Las Vegas agrees, “Perrie is the reason our divas are so fabulous, awesome, and just all around pimp.”

While being a graphic fashion designer may seem like a walk in the park, sitting at home sketching virtual clothes that don’t even need to be sewn does not come naturally for Perrie. At first, she had no clue what she was doing and was learning the ropes as she went along. “Originally, I didn’t think I was good enough to do the clothes,” Perrie says. “If you look at the first few clothes compared to the most recent, you’ll see a big difference.” Comparing the “Betty Boop Top” that was part of the first collection to the newer and more intricate “Malice” top that has wraps, ribbons, ruffles, and a bow, members clearly see the improvements Perrie has made over the past few months.

While her designs have earned her fans, it is Perrie’s perkiness and bright attitude that has earned her so many friends on the site. No matter how dark her day may have been, Perrie is always bubbly and fun. She is always smiling and making others smile. “If you’re feeling down, she’s sure to cheer you up,” says Sophie, who has found a new best friend on Diva Chix in Perrie.

Christina, a seventeen-year-old from Ireland says, “There are no misconceptions when Perrie is concerned. She speaks only from her heart and puts smiles on people’s faces that last the whole day. We may not know her in person, we may not get to see that smile in person—yet we still know exactly who Perrie is and that smile reaches within. It’s so great having somebody who you know is so genuine and real posting genuine responses and opinions on whatever we may want to talk about. Perrie is a vital part of Diva Chix and it just wouldn’t be the same without her.”

And Perrie adores her friends on the site just as much as they appreciate her. “I love [illustration] and Diva Chix which I love more, I love it.”

Interview with Andreia

So I had a quick sit-down chat with Andreia so that you and I can get to know her better, seeing as how she's the new Insta-Celebrity Designer of Diva Chix. She is the new Zac Posen for DC, so let's see what she says about her own style, inspirations, and designs!

Sylvie: How old are you?
Andreia: 24

Sylvie: How did you get started designing clothes?
Andreia: On Diva Chix? Well, I just wanted to make nice little dress-me-ups since Dollwar but that was not possible because there was no CYO there.

Sylvie: Do you do graphic design professionally?
Andreia: Nope, just a hobby.

Sylvie: Where do you get your fashion inspirations?
Andreia: Anime, fashion TV, magazines, TV shows.

Sylvie: Do you have a favorite designer/fashion house? If so, who?
Andreia: Too many to mention lol.

Sylvie: How would you describe your personal sense of style [in real life]?
Andreia: It depends on my mood. But, I keep it simple: sleeveless plus jeans and some flip-flops or heels.

Sylvie: What is one clothing item you could not live without?
Andreia: Lingerie? lol

Sylvie: What is a current trend that you love?
Andreia: I don't even know what the current trend is! Lol if you watch too many things on TV you'll mix things up! lol

Sylvie: That you hate?
Andreia: Hmm.. I can't think of anything I hate..

Sylvie: If you could raid any celebrity's closet, whose would you choose?
Andreia: Hmm.. toughie..well, maybe the following: Nicole Kidman, Paris Hilton, Victoria Beckham. But I really can't tell, because the things they wear on the red carpet and the things they wear in real life -at home-are different.

Sylvie: What era is your favorite in history for fashion [For example, 1960s Mod, 1920s Flapper, etc.]?
Andreia: Hmm much tougher...Well, I like many eras, but I'm really hooked with the Medieval times.

New Official Designer

Warmest Congratulations to Andreia on getting her name in dark pink!

Andreia [ami7mina] is the new official designer on DivaChix and she's going to do fabulous!
Photobucket
Just look at how unique her diva is! Andreia has a very unique sense of style and this means that pretty soon, all our divas can mix and match a very diverse variety of styles and clothes to create fabulous outfits!

Best of luck, Andreia on this huge undertaking! I can't wait to be able to buy your creations in the DC Shopping Mall!

Paris Fashion Week

So Paris Fashion Week for Haute Couture has just ended yesterday.

Let's have a rundown of some highlights and low-lights from a couple shows. This post is dedicated to the Giorgio Armani Prive show.

I picked up on a futuristic theme with a slight Eastern/Oriental influence. There is definitely a lot of detail in this collection, and I'm not sure how much of that is a positive thing.

Highlights:
Photobucket
I love the femininity of this look! It's very chic without looking overworked. And I absolutely love the fabrics used here and the shape of the skirt! However, I'm not sure how I feel about the tassels on the bow or the wingtips on the shoulders.

Photobucket
Okay, I don't know exactly what I like about this dress, but there's something about it that just holds my attention. I'm not a fan of the shimmery material, but the shape of this dress and the details are magnificent! It's obviously not something meant to be actually worn, otherwise it would be in the Ready to Wear shows, but it's just so intriguing! And looking at the dress, I forget all about that atrocious hair!

Photobucket
Stunning! Absolutely stunning! It's just a very clean dress with amazing details. I love the serpentine floral embellishment. It's incredible. I am just in love.

Low-Lights:
Photobucket
I don't even know where to start. The winged tips, the shininess, the shape of that skirt. It's just so...out there! Yes, it's futuristic, but this is just insane! The top is so structured but the skirt is just floppy and there. And I hate the fabrics used here.

Photobucket
Okay, this is such a matronly looking outfit. It's actually making the model look a bit shapeless and frumpy. And again with all the wingtips! The bottom hem of the top, the shoulders, even the hem of the pants! It's too much!

Photobucket
I can't even get over what the is on the model's head to pay attention to the actual clothes here! It's just so distracting!

So overall, I found this collection to go two completely opposite directions at once. It's crazily out there in space at some points, but then it gets all matronly and old-fashioned at other points. And sometimes, both are combined into the same outfit and you're just confused! However, I truly appreciated all the details put into this collection. I think the intense attention to details may have saved this collection from getting too wacky!

What do you think? Anything from the Armani Prive Collection you would like to have in either your own closet or your Diva Chix wardrobe? Speak your mind in the comments!
